Luggage on the coach
30 kg of luggage is included in every passenger's ticket. Each extra kilogram costs €1. If you are bringing something large or unusual, tell the dispatcher when you book so they can keep room for it.
Keep your documents, money, phone and any medicines you need on the way in your hand luggage, not in the hold.
Food that gets confiscated
You cannot bring meat or dairy products from Moldova into the European Union, not even small amounts. The rule is the European Union's and applies to almost every country outside it, Moldova included. Anything found is confiscated and destroyed, and the passenger can be fined. Do not pack:
- meat, sausages, ham, salo, pastrami;
- cheese, cottage cheese, milk, sour cream, butter;
- pies, stuffed cabbage rolls, cooked meals or sauces that contain meat or milk.
Food you can bring
For your own use you can bring:
- fish and fish products: up to 20 kg per person;
- honey, eggs and other animal products without meat or milk: up to 2 kg in total;
- powdered infant milk and baby food in sealed original packaging: up to 2 kg.
Fruit, vegetables and flowers
Fruit, vegetables, plants, cut flowers and seeds from outside the European Union need a phytosanitary certificate. Without one, they are confiscated. The only exceptions are pineapples, coconuts, durians, bananas and dates.
Cigarettes, alcohol and shopping
When entering Romania, each adult passenger can bring duty-free:
- at most 40 cigarettes (2 packs);
- 1 litre of spirits (over 22%) or 2 litres of sparkling or fortified wine;
- 4 litres of wine and 16 litres of beer;
- other goods (presents, clothes, appliances) worth up to €300.
Above these limits
Passengers under 17 cannot bring cigarettes or alcohol duty-free. Anything above the limits is charged customs duty at the border. If you often bring the same goods, customs may treat them as goods for sale.
Cash
When entering the European Union, amounts of €10,000 or more (added together, in any currency) must be declared to customs. You can take more than €10,000 out of Moldova only with a written declaration and papers showing where the money comes from, for example from your bank; amounts over €50,000 can only be sent by bank transfer.
Keep the money on you, in your hand luggage.
Medicines
Bring medicines in their original packaging, with the prescription or a letter from your doctor. When leaving Moldova you can carry medicines for up to 3 weeks of treatment or, for chronic illness, up to 12 months, with your medical papers.
Medicines containing narcotic or psychotropic substances (some strong painkillers, for example) need a special prescription and must be declared to customs. Without these papers, carrying them counts as smuggling.
What not to bring on the coach
For everyone's safety, do not bring gas canisters, fuel, fireworks or anything else that could catch fire or explode. If you would like to travel with a pet, ask the dispatcher first.
